Wherever we go, we find Malayalis
go all over the world; toiling hard for their daily livelihood. Be it a gulf
country or a European country, there is no exception for the presence of
Malayalis. Here Nivin Pauly starrer movie Jacobinte Swargarajyam speaks about
such a life of a Malayali family living in Dubai.
Jacob is a hardworking Malayali
who has built a small empire in this foreign land out of his hard toil. The
story starts and moves on, though for a little while, a happy note only till
Jacob loses nearly everything as a result of sudden changes in the economy. Now
the movie speaks about the hard endurance Jacob and his family had to face in
their lives.
Sadly there aren’t lot of twists
and suspense in this movie for sure but the smooth flow of story is superb and
it entertains family audience a lot. I acknowledge that there are a quite few
moments where one may feel the story to be lagging. As scriptwriter Vineeth
Srinivasan has done justice to the story which is based on his friend Gregory’s
life. The film too is dedicated to Gregory and his family.
The film is free from low-quality
wits and intentional puns but is woven with the bonds among family members.
Both Jacob (Renji Panicker) and his son Jerry (Nivin Pauly) have done their
roles exceptionally well. Probably the director-turned-actor is at his best as Jacob and there is no doubt this is going to be a golden feather in his acting career. Nivin Pauly’s clean-shaven face gives him a (more)
younger look and an entirely different getup from his Action Hero Biju role as
a police officer with a moustache.
Handling a well-known theme i.e.
Pravasi Jeevitham (Life of Expatriates) there is nothing much newness to be
claimed. Yet, the film stands different in its presentation. The film does not
make anyone disappointed in its entirety, especially those who are expecting
for a family entertainer. It is definitely a movie for families and I would
rate it four stars on five.
